The heated debate on what is more advantageous, the Out-of-the-Box or Customized MES solution, continues. There are pros and cons to both approaches.

The Out-of-the-Box solution is a prepackaged system that covers certain MES functionalities and requires just some configuration and parametrization before you can use it in your factory. The implementation of such a solution is typically quick and relatively inexpensive. The risks are limited, and time to market is fast. On the other hand, such a solution may not fully cover all the business processes, and you may need to adjust your way of working to the way the system operates.

On the other end of the spectrum, we have a customized MES system. This kind of system is designed and developed just for you, tailored to your particular business needs.

Such an approach allows you to address your business requirements very precisely. You own the software, and you are in full control of your destiny in this area. On the other hand, it is time-consuming and costly. You need to document your requirements, help design the system, and take a leading role in testing the solution. It takes time and money, no matter if you do this alone or with an external vendor.

There is yet another way of implementing MES systems. This approach offers many of the Out-of-the-Box solution benefits while still providing an option for customizations and adjustments – an MES platform.

During the Meet-the-ExpertS webinar related to this topic, our experts discussed the above to help the audience gain new insights and decide which approach is a better option.
